[Newbie help] out-of-character in-character ooc ic
Communication in the game is achieved using various commands. Some examples
are tell, say and gtell - see the communication help file for more. There
are two key styles of communication that should be clearly distinguished by
any player: out of character communication, and in-character communication.
In character, or IC, communication is considered standard behavior for
players. Since Shattered Kingdoms is set in a mythical fantasy environment,
references to pop culture as well as modern day slang is not considered
appropriate. Please note that portraying thick accents, the inability to
properly pronounce some words or other speech impediments is not considered
out of character communication. It is acceptable for a player to design a
character that cannot speak correctly.
Out of character, or OOC, communication is encouraged to be used only
sparingly. Since learning the game of Shattered Kingdoms is not an easy
task, OOC communication may be necessary to ask questions not easily asked
in an in-game manner. However, it is encouraged for all OOC communication
to be differentiated from normal communication by placing the letters OOC
before statement (without the OOC prefix, it is considered in-character and
may have ramifications for your character!)
Examples:
> say Thankth for theveral of the thuperb thnake venom vialth - they thaved
my life!
> tell meissa ooc: How do I cast spells that have two words, like chain
lightning?
> gt ooc: My kyboard is brokn I can't typ th lttr , umm, th lttr aftr d
