Over the past few months, the staff has been receiving feedback and suggestions regarding our forums. That feedback - a fair portion of it being form new players who've decided not to come back to the game - has caused deliberation between us over exactly what position the forums hold in our game environment. After talking extensively over the matter, we've decided to make a few changes to the official forums to bring them into line with what we want to be within the official atmosphere of the SK environment.

Today, the staff is announcing the implementation of these changes to the official SK forums board:

  • The General Discussion forum has been retired and removed from the Open Forums section.
We feel that any conversation relevant to the game should be held to the standards of the gameplay forums already available. We will be adjusting The Pantheon forum to field more useful conversation directed toward immortals and global events not directly related to gameplay mechanics.

  • The Bazaar is being introduced as a new and more friendly forum for discussing topics not related to the game.
People have asked for a forum dedicated to just OOC interaction not regarding the game. While this has been resisted for a long time, we have come to the conclusion that fostering this kind of interaction between players may be good for the overall health of the atmosphere and the game.

  • All forums will now be operated using an updated moderation policy, outlined as below.

SK Forums Moderation Policy

  1. The rules: No attacks, insinuations against or condescension toward any player or staff member is permitted.

    Some helpful definitions for clarity:
    • insinuation - an unpleasant hint or suggestion of something bad; a usually bad or insulting remark that is said in an indirect way; the act of saying something bad or insulting in an indirect way
    • condescension - disdain; an attitude or behavior of patronizing superiority; the attitude or behavior of people who believe they are more intelligent or better than other people

Posts that break the above guideline will be removed and a warning will be issued. Any subsequent posts that quote the original post will also be removed (but will not receive a warning due to the quotation). The decision, and removal of posts, may be appealed.

  2. On a third offense, the offender will be placed on probationary status. All posts of theirs will require approval before reaching the boards publicly. Probation is a minimum of one month. An appeal may be requested of the rules manager at any time after that, but probation will continue until the appeal is resolved.

  3. Appeals will be heard by a moderation panel consisting of the rules manager and two admins selected by the offender.

This avenue is to foster openness and accountability on the staff's part in conjunction with stricter guidelines. In the event of a successful appeal, the warning will be rescinded and the posts restored. The staff will publicly announce the outcome to appeals.
