I would encourage you to seek out someone who can identify items before you buy too many of them: The quality of an item, which ranges from poor to near god-like, also matches up roughly to the status levels given as you advance in levels: And honestly, there isn't much benefit to having that better armor at those lower levels anyway, so you're usually better off saving your coin for a rainy day or for training spells and skills at higher levels. As a warlock especially, your jewelry (particularly the stat mods on said jewelry) is pretty much the only thing that will matter at all for you until well into expert status, and most jewelry that can be bought in capital cities, stat mods included, are "average" or lower quality, meaning that they'll never be stolen by thieves. As you'll surely hear a few times in the future, one of the most popular pieces of caster advice is "If you're getting hit, you're doing it wrong." As such I wouldn't sweat having any decent armor, given that as a warlock you'll gain experience much faster standing behind a pet and cranking out spells as opposed to getting some armor, wielding a mace and going toe to toe with baddies: Spell experience counts for double when compared with melee combat, and unless you're an exceptionally strong warlock, your mastery of the elements will also hurt much more than some lowly mace.

One other thing which lends itself to more newbie frustration on this matter is the fact that often higher-level characters will sell good armor/weaponry to shops in capital cities, meaning that even the lowliest newbie can end up with a set of mithril armor for a pretty penny, though it'll be almost guaranteed to be stolen from them unless they can manage to crank out 30 levels before logging off. To that end I'd encourage you to be wary of buying anything that looks like it "doesn't fit" in a shop, especially if it looks awesome and is expensive. There'll be a time when that stuff is worth the coin, but it won't be for a while more than likely.

I didn't know you could sell anything to any shops. Is this only possible with higher level gear?

Also I wear almost no jewellry, lol, Except for a quest item that I haven't tried to check for properties yet. I wasn't aware that jewellry was so important/common place. There is so much to figure out in this game, I just realized one of the stolen items was this cool little quest item I found in the forest that I was still trying to puzzle out

You can sell anything, potentially. Shop owners will some times be "uninterested" in certain items. They tend to be items that are common within their kingdom. Taking the same item to a shop in another kingdom might yield different results.

The economy of a kingdom affects how much you will get for your sell. Typing "value __item__" will let you know how much the shopkeep will pay for it. "sell __item__" is the syntax for selling.

Weapons shops buy weapons, Magic shops buy scrolls or wands, etc. There are general pawn shops, but even some of those have a limit on what sort of items they will buy.

jewelry is immensely helpful.
