If I have a character coming up to me speaking japanese, Im going to ignore them.

This is an english text mud, I don't feel like having to look up random words that I have never seen before...that aren't even enlgish.

And for all of you like OMGZ they DO IT IRL! SPANGLISH!

This is not rl...And I like keeping it that way.

I'll chime in here as well, having lived through one character that did this very thing. If you are going to go this route, and no amount of attempts at dissuasion will sway you, stick to "universally understood" 'words'.

Hai/Ee
Iie (a couple of emotes and this one can be added to universally understood fairly quickly)
Nani
Boku (Yes, this assumes a few things, but it's shorter than watashi, and thereby more easily explained imo)
Baka (Obvious)
Bakemono (Only because these are already in the game)
Katana/ken/bokken/other weapon variants (as MOST of these are in the game)
Ketsu (Avoid "Ketsuboshi", or "bootiehat"(mandatory snicker))

Also, if you're going to go this route, I'd recommend saying them ONLY in your native language (assuming zhensh). The point of the above words was to make an example of things that can be easily explained without breaking the fourth wall TOO much. Some of these things have precedence in sk. Ninja do not. Mostly.

You might have heard the saying about a picture being worth a thousand words - that's the point of an emote, to show something. Such a gesture can be worth more than simply a word, whether in the english language or not. The 'peculiar' customs that Thyki mentioned, for example, may get your point or rp across better than screaming "Obaasan! Ieeeeeeeeee!" (or "Grandmother! Nooooooooo!")

This being said, it's as much your sandbox as it is anyone else's. Wee wee in it however you like.

Thank you all for the replies.
Now I have a clear picture on what is tolerable, what borders on annoying and what is purely annoying. :)

I will try hard not to end up being the latter two, unless RP dictates so.

Many members of certain factions use words from different languages.
Imperials often use latin titles. There are books in the game that talk about concepts of bushido and samurai. An item used specifically for 'seppuku'. The Yed religion uses words like 'sidai' and 'guru' from Hinduism and Buddhism. There are people running around with paenulae and wakizashi's.
Even though we still use the english language, there is a huge influence from other languages and cultures. Some of the things in the game can't be expressed in english.

Because of this, I don't think it is fair to tell someone they shouldn't use a little bit of Japanese since it's already a part of the game.

[edit] Here's another one. There's an item in the game that is a 'kanji'.
