Telnet is really hard. If you can manage to connect with not-telnet, I recommend Gmud, as its really easy to get started. http://members.fortunecity.com/jo7683sa/gmud/ |

You can PM me or any friendly SK member if you need help or have any questions. My personal contact info is at the bottom. SimpleMU is a good choice as well, but I don't want to leave you confused and indecisive, so go ahead and stick with GMud. I hope you enjoy playing! |

Hello, Kiyoku. Welcome to shattered Kingoms. I'm glad you took an interest in the game, but I would advise you down load a mud client so that you don't have to play with Telenet. It will increase your enjoyment of the game immensely. http://www.shatteredkingdoms.org/clients |

As we are on the subject, if you want something small (but still has some great features), consider putty. (Google for it. I forget the URL off the top of my head ![]() But lets also fix your telnet problem. You could have one of many problems. I'm assuming your using a Windows based machine (someone with MAC experiences is going to have to help you if your using a MAC). Click Start>Run. Type telnet and hit enter. A black box should pop up. Type "o mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996" (without the "" of course). This should be your basic connection to SK. Telnet is really crappy way to play, but it is as least a start. If you cannot connect, you will need to check your firewall/proxy settings and be sure they allow telnet traffic. If everything seems OK, be sure to try back after a few minutes. You may have caught SK in the middle of a crash/reboot. A useful tool which is becomming forgotten is IRC. SK has an IRC channel. (Server:Darkmyst - Channel: Shatteredkingdoms). Its a little inactive as of late, but thats a great way to get help if you can connect to IRC. Hope that helps and welcome to Shatteredkingdoms! sleeper |

putty - http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ Same URL since the product's inception; you have to admire consistency. As a result, from google you can type in putty and click 'I'm Feeling Lucky' and go straight there. ![]() Regardless of your preferred Telnet or MUD client, you'll only ever need to enter the following two values - Hostname: mud.shatteredkingdoms.org Port: 1996 |

Do you have a Macintosh or a Windows PC? If you have a macintosh, download Savitar If you have a pc running Microsoft Windows, download Simple Mu for free, or buy Zmud. I did and It works. |

If you have a macintosh, download Savitar It has been a while since I've tried using Savitar, but when I did have it, I was not impressed. However, that may have been the older Mac OS 9.x version, or a beta version of the OS X. Personally, I run Mac OS X and I have been using MudWalker for a few years. It's a functional, well-designed, open-source MUD client with a developer who maintains regular Q/A, gathers input from its users, and sends out a regular newsletter addressing questions, problems, and answers to its users. The URL is: http://mudwalker.cubik.org/ Welcome to SK! |
