Hi, I'm new. Though, I suppose that is obvious to those whom have interacted with me in the game!

I wanted to comment on a few things before I asked my question.

Firstly, I have died like, 5 times. Every single one of those times, I was minding my own business and some NPC priestess decided she wanted me as her sacrifice, or some silver weasel didn't like me walking through that part of the woods. Dying has been most aggravating... infuriating...

... and secondly, by far, the coolest after life I have ever seen on a mud. period. Desite the aggravation it causes you, having to contact a priest and to get raised from the dead. You still get tells. You can manifest. RP. And, it realllllly gives importance to the classes who meddle with the dead. So often are clerics and necromancers useless on a mud because you pretty much can get raised by an NPC priestess or don't actually die at all.

And, I will say one last thing, it is WAY easier to get help when you're in a good aligned city, let me tell you. So many people have ACTUALLY taken their shirts off their back for me when I was in need. It's remarkable.
You guys know who you are.

And, on to my question.

Where the heck do these oracle riddles come from? I sat for like, 10 minutes, mulling over the one I got. I came up with the perfect answer, from a spell that was in the game, and it was incorrect. I tray whenever I die. And I still suck.

So come on. Give it up. Where do I look for the answers to these riddles?

You just have to think about them. Some are tricky. Cant really tell you where to look in game for most. I can only think of one that the answer is base mostly in-game.

Where do they come from?

One word.

Wert.

As to where do you get the answer from? Not spent much time there myself. Always seemed easier to blag a resurrection or reincarnate, especially as the penalties for the Oracle are progressive.

Getting the answers from an OOC source would actually be cheating, though naturally hard to prove.

But you can still send and receive tells when sat with the Oracle. Personally, after mulling over the riddle myself for a while, any character of mine would probably then start to call on the resources of his friends. Or even complete strangers, if it came to it. Some people are actually good at these things. Others have just been there too many times before

And yes, dying is undoubtedly the sting in the tail of curiocity and wander-lust!

Actually reincarnate costs 1 level, the oracle costs 3 ticks at most I think.

Sorry, my question was a little vague.

The answers to the riddles are of the in character, sort, correct? Be it, areas in the game, spells in the game, languages, etc, etc.

Or do they come from the outside and the answers are generally whatever fits?

Well, It's all In game, in a sense. Let's say an answer was forest, well there are forests in game, lets say its a fish, there are fish in game, it will never be automobile or skyscraper or airplane and such. Whatever fits, but it's going to be something that could or does exist in SK.

A lot of people assume the answers for the riddles are all game involved. However, I must agree that only once seems to have the answer pulled directly from SK. Just think of things you actually know about. The majority of them are a lot easier if you can separate the riddle from the coding of SK and just think of the actual world around you.

Yeah. Most of them are things from everyday life, like "caterpillar" or "water" or "a nose." There is only one that I can think of offhand that depends on knowledge of something mythical, but it that something is very common on SK.

All the oracle questions are originals, most of them that I created, but a few with the help of some players.
