Alright, hi. After much consideration and chatting with an OOC friend, I've decided to roll a Hellion. I've got description and character mostly fleshed out... Even fairly certain I want to go under Algorab for such. Now, to do so, I need a few (i. e. a lot, but I'll keep the list short) questions answered.

A. Is Algorab the 'best' choice? It does seem he has the most followers of Evil Gods, and I'd get the most RP out of it.
B. Does my Hellion need to squire under someone?
C. If so, how do I become a squire? Would a title saying 'Aspiring fearmonger' work to draw attention?
D. At what level do I NEED to be a squire? As in, can I advance beyond Novice without being a squire, and not be punished/hindered.
E. Lastly, do Hellions get spells/abilities based on their religion?

Edit: A link to an earlier thread would suffice, I've looked and didn't find one. *Also any tips on Melee chars as its really my first would be appreciated.*

Hi! I've not played a hellion before but I have played the high priestess of Algorab so I can at least talk on that.

A) The "Best" choice is whatever you want to do most. With that said, if you want to get right into a religion (which you would want to do for most of your spell set, although there have been a couple very successful hellions that did not follow a religion at all or one of the three religions that accept hellions. ) then Algorab would be a good choice now as it has some active followers as well as a high knight.

B) You do not "have" to squire under someone, but I would recommend it as it is a really great RP experience, and since you are interested in Algorab and there is both an active High Knight and an elder knight of Algorab you shouldn't have trouble with this.

C) You will most likely be taken on as a squire by the high knight once he inducts you, so I would just recommend putting your title as seeking Algorab in some fashion. During your religion chat that sort of thing will work itself out.

D) There isn't really a set level to be a squire. You'll need a religion to use most of your spells so you'll want to get into a religion reasonably quickly.

E) Unlike priests there is not a religion specific spell for hellions.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Oh and FYI, you do not have to be a squire under a knight of your own religion. So if Sargas or Ain interest you more you can follow them but squire under another knight. If I recall correctly there have also been a few hellions/paladin knight/squire pairs. But this is generally not the case.

Squire is independent of level and determined by the knight guiding said squire. I've seen GM squires waiting to fulfil their assigned tasks and I've seen some knights sidestepping the process entirely, although that can create conflict by calling into question the honor of said knight bypassing the guidelines and traditional RP. Religion certainly can be independent as well when there may be a shortage of said knights in that faith. I have seen paladins squire hellions and hellions squire paladins, but this is a rare case and will also make honor a question, but I imagine the RP can be entertaining.

I believe at one point there was intended to be a reformation of how religious classes worked which would have given some use to the "knight" and "ordain" commands which are empty and without function at current. A character would start as an acolyte and based on their own goals and RP follow whichever path was more suitable. I am certain this line of thinking has long since passed even though the idea is sound. Too bad we couldn't do something with those commands in the current arena that allowed this type of RP to be granted a measure of solidarity by the code itself.

As a side note, what's with attacking the novice when he's not even being rude.... =.= It's happened twice, and a third time he had magic casted on him. @.@

Note to self: Never start in Teron again. All I get is spat on, even if I'm entering an inn so I can use the Mentor command as I can't get back into the arena.

As long as you aren't telling them to [REDACTED] off and provoking a fight by attacking them or challenging them. Those are reportable violations. Even if you provoked them by attacking or challenged them, at worst you should have been stunned.

One stunned... then took some of his things. Another confused him (Hard to guess who that was) and broke his sword, nearly killing him, but managed to flee. The third one was okay, I suppose... just having Change Sex casted on him for no reason. That didn't end in combat, but its still aggrivating. So, I don't think I'll be starting another character in Teron anytime soon.

I hate change sex. There is literally no practical purpose for it. It's ONLY a griefing spell.

It has a purpose! If you want a genderless character, just roll a sorc and hold that spell constantly!
