I'd like to try to help new players and I finally achieved the rank of Mentor. May I contact players that are "New to Pyrathia" and offer help or wait until they solicit it?

By all means, offer if you'd like. :)

I do this all the time on my priest. It can be helpful especially when the person you're contacting isn't fully aware of the implications of the 'tell' system. Once I helped a newbie who didn't think the tell command or who list were technically IC so wasn't asking anyone for assistance and depended on random encounter for interactions.

I've attempted to speak with new characters as soon as I got the enrolled in training tell.
While sometimes they ask for jewelry or a weapon, there have been a few occasions where they were vet players that did not want to RP and they logged out and never returned. I've learned from experiance not to engage these players. But if they have the "new to Pyrathia" title, then it's worth risking it. They might verywell be newbies that will require help about commands and it's nice for them to have someone they can ask questions to. (Did I just end a sentence in a preposition? "This seems to be the trailer in which they were whackin.")

Yeah, I was thinking only those who are specifically flagged "New."

And... prepositions are not words that you should end sentences with.

Imms say go for it on the 'new' players. But I'd also suggest giving other new characters their space until they want to start some RP for their character.

Also, I just googled it and it turns out that "with" is also a preposition. I hope you did it ironically. But if not, that's hilarious.

But that's just being too picky!

It is being very picky, and while ymmv, I have found that the number of people who will avoid you for your spelling and grammar is very, very low. I wouldn't worry about it for even a minute.

Regarding the original topic and first couple replies, I've often gone as far as to stop by the newbie zone without being called, if they are "new to Pyrathia" on the who list and I'm playing a reasonably high profile character. While you'll get into trouble if you use the newbie zone for skill practice or as a hiding spot, I've never heard of anyone getting anything but a pat on the back for good faith efforts to engage newbs. Go for it!

The "But..." was also a joke. Back to the original topic...

You can send tells to newbies but entering the newbie area without explicitly being requested to do so is a big no-no?
