Since we are going for ultimate realism in this game I propose the following changes, I think this will ensure the most entertainment is had from everyone playing sk. After all, most of the skills or abilities these will address don't make much sense anyway. Seriously, when was the last time you were able to hide in an open area in broad daylight or open a gate or rift??

1.) All characters and NPCs die in fewer hits. When was the last time you were able to get stabbed more than two or three times before going down? This should be changed immediately.
2.) Moving distances outdoors takes considerably more movement points. Nay, everything takes considerably more movement points - it doesn't make sense any other way.
3.) Remove all magic from the game. You can't make something from nothing, right?
4.) Remove the ability to hide from areas with out shadow. When was the last time you could hide in an empty room in broad day light, anyway?
5.) Remove the ability to sneak if you aren't concealed. How can you sneak if people can see you?
6.) To create any item you must have all materials readily available in your inventory. Snares, arrows, I don't care. You better start making rope and cutting down trees. I can already see the deforestation of Pyrathia among us.
7.) No more sight from moon light if you're in outdoors areas. When was the last time you could navigate through a thick forest in moon light? Maybe only when it's a full moon?
8.) Glowing items no longer provide sight in dark rooms. Seriously, you can illuminate a wilderness room and see everything with a glowing ring. That is one bright ring.
9.) Remove all races but humans from the game. Since there are only humans in real life I see no need for any other race.
10.) Remove all extraordinary combat skills from the game. I'm pretty sure humans are only capable of so much anyway.
11.) Remove all cabal skills from the game. In the spirit of not revealing any cabal abilities I wont explain here - but the people who know them know that they don't make any sense.
12.) Remove the ability to send tells. Humans are not telepathic, and since magic doesn't REALLY exist I don't see how this can make any sense at all.

I am sure there are other things that I've missed which don't make sense or aren't 'realistic'. I am having a very difficult time understanding why we are trying to mirror realism or life so closely in a fantasy game that we play to -escape- from realism. Cut the game some slack and have some fun for christ sake.

Three, you're kind of being a dummy. Snare is old and busted, stop whining.

Yeah, it should totally be more of an inconvenience on players to use it though, because its not realistic enough. I think it should take 100% PE to lay one snare.

Also you should have to braid rope and gather branches and leaves to conceal it. How long does it take to braid a good sturdy rope, a day or two?

So maybe one day and two hours lag time to put a snare down, just so it's realistic.

Three, you're still kind of being a dummy. Stop it. Stop it, now.

I'm just saying - when will the realism stop?

I thought we were playing a game.

We ARE playing a game. It's called "Three! Stop being a dummy!"

You will stop being a dummy! And you will like it!

Actually three got it quite right I think, it is a game.

Usually the 'the game has to be more realistic' phrase is used to get things wimped because someone is bitching from dying...

Curious to know how long it's been since I've died? Actually, I am, too. I'm certain it's around the order of at least a month. I stated my motivation in the outset of this thread. Don't try to use a fallacy to direct attention away from the point.

coming from the guy that made two threads bitching about tribunals having the ability to command NPCs, I'm not sure that labeling this thread as QQ is really your best strategy, bub.

often when the term "realism" is used, the intention is in regards to what is realistic inside the game. computers aren't realistic in SK, neither are cars - that's why we don't have them, they don't make sense inside the world. if you want a better word, consider what's "logical". SK has SK-logic, and using SK-logic, some skills and spells are illogical or unrealistic for the game's purposes. the idea is that snare is one of them, but can be altered to make more sense, be more useful and be more fun.

maybe now that the distinction is made, we can get a little less useless sarcasm? nobody's even close to suggesting something that silly, three - if you want to force your perspective into misinterpretation, have fun doing that while everybody else goes back to attempting constructive discussion.

Oh I thought of a really cool skill for griffons, since they are the only PC race with animal senses they should have a special track skill in which they can hunt by scent. Pick up and scent and follow it. Making it easier outdoors due tot he scent not mixing with others and in the city har as hell because all the scents blend.

Snares should take a good chunk of PE and do something better.

Change the skill to TRAPS.

then add stuff.

Snares suck to set up and have a high failure rate, the triggers and stuff are hard to carve and set up and the things hurt like a [REDACTED] when you get slapped in the face with them.

Oh that woul be cool, a failed snare could cause damage from the backlash.

Seriously though, just change the skill into something usefull, require PE on a scale, reduce the number of traps in an area to one, random change to spot it, greater chance with certain skills.

Then give Rogues and bards Disable trap.
