I'm curious about the pole arm change. Why does melee fighting stop when you unwield a pole arm? Is that a ranged combat change? Or would that be true if someone was in the front line too?

It's not actually stopping fighting, it's stopping the game from believing you are in melee. This was to fix the problem of a second row scout who was wielding a spear and who mid-fight wants to wield and shoot their bow instead.

Overall, I am glad about the update, but now shamans have the choices of being a: Lump of clay (defender using doll instead of wpn), weak healer, or weak maledictor? Oh... Forgot, guess they can become someone's brew biatch.

also, now sprite priests and delf bards!

I think a lot of people would disagree with you on just how good shamans are. I believe Call Lightning is still one of the best spells in the game for skirmishing, heal is still amazing, spirit aura is still amazing, maledictions are still amazing...

What am I missing here? I am supposedly mounted by the spirit rider, but we are not in the same position within the group.

I can actually position myself and the rider independently, which is a great change, BTW, but it makes me a bit confused and concerned.

So, check this one out...

Code:
(Charmed) A spirit rider is here flying on you.
A large brown rat is here.

[100] [100] [ 98] Spring - 25/1251 - 10pm

A large brown rat misses you.

[100] [100] [ 98] Spring - 25/1251 - 10pm
south
No way!  You are still fighting!

[100] [100] [ 98] Spring - 25/1251 - 10pm

You slash at a large brown rat's chest, DISEMBOWELING it!
You slash a large brown rat's chest HARD, cutting through its ribs!
You slash a large brown rat's jaw, breaking it with a loud *SNAP*
A spirit rider wounds a large brown rat.
You dodge a large brown rat's attack.
Overall, a large brown rat is in awful condition.

[100] [100] [ 97] Spring - 25/1251 - 10pm

A spirit rider wounds a large brown rat.
You slash a large brown rat's chest.  A large brown rat falls on its knees and collapses.
A large brown rat is DEAD!!
A large brown rat's guts spill out.
You get a single gold coin from a corpse of a large brown rat.
You get 8 copper coins from a corpse of a large brown rat.

This was just to test things out. It seems I actually AM in the front row, sorta kinda... I'm just way confused about this.

That's weird. The display might be off?

You're exactly right, Edoras. It is just the display.

The changes to fatigue and haste/gs seem like way brutal for melee now, Big D.

This was a severe nerf for melee vs casters (which is already a terrible matchup, man), since melee has to buff up for every skirmish, and casters can just WoR away, get a new charm/undead and come back at full power. And now the melee chars will be losing strength and dex for every haste/gs?

Can the duration of fatigue be lessened to something like 1/2 the duration of the spell, instead of double it?

Nevermind that a human sorc (the single class least in need of buffs) can now run around at 25 str/dex 24/7 with no downside. Wut, bro.

Fatigue duration should be lessened.

I'll stop when they make WoR unbrewable!

Also, bash something something.
