The player in question contacted me and was very upset about what happened. He couldn't believe it happened.

Unfortunately, there are some players in SK who think they have to win and winning at any costs. House Vorlak is a joke. If they are what the Adepts are going to become, let them stay dead. I could play a better Adept.

This player was making an attempt to rejoin SK after his first experience was less than pleasant. His first experience involved someone helping him to learn the game, then mocking him for not leveling up fast enough or being as cool as his mentor.

Events like this DO NOT HELP SK. It ruins the game. Think before you act. Dulrik has said that. Sometimes you have to be a little more newbie friendly to people. Don't be a jerk. Don't be a butthead. You can use stun. You can use words. You can use RP to teach people to play the game and further their RP but you do not need to kill everyone each and every time.

That's because as soon as you meet someone peso, you try to convince them you are more awesome than them, even if they are 49 levels above you.

Your characters rarely RP respect and/or inferiority to another character, because it seems you are forgetting this is a game and you're thinking that behind the character you're talking to there's a player, and YOU ARE BETTAR! YOU MUST BE! AMG! WIN!

You'd be -such- a great player, if you weren't such a twat, my friend :p

While the incident is unfortunate, this is actually a good place to point out how rarely this king of problem happens nowadays. It used to happen on a daily basis. We've done quite a lot to safeguard newbies from violent activities over the years. Not just the auto-newbie protection, but also giving them a separate recall for the first few levels and encouraging the large-scale PK actions to take place in faction HQs and wilderness locations has helped keep the newbie deaths to a minimum.

I must say one of the two supercilious delfs killed my jman griffon on sight as they were rampaging one of the lightie starting cities. Granted, they did not do a full jloot, but they did fly in, attack, nuff said. No time to consider, not even time to look griffon, just in, kill, whatever.

I agree accidents happen, but when the same accident happens to the same people, when does it quit being an accident?

The problem here has nothing to do with killing low level people, it has to do with killing newbies. There is an extreme difference.

If I see a newbie with twisted glass pendants, worn leather bracers, and full glistening - I am far, far, far more likely to mode kill them than I would a low level player without equipment that clearly identifies them as experienced players.

Actually, it has everything to do with killing lowbies. There is a consider command for a reason and if they have glistening, most likely they are cheating to get that much coin at that level

It has -nothing- to do with killing low level people. It has everything to do with killing people who are new to the mud. I will kill as many apprentice mercs who are walking through Taslamar with black bay destriers and full +int/+dex add ons that I please, but I won't touch a veteran who is wearing a full set of flying serpent skins.

Note I said they did not "look griffon" before they attacked. And as far as what I wear, my mentor griffon had the same as it had at jman until I lost it all in a 28-hour trip to the river. (Any jman can preven the thieves from taking the gear I had on it.)
