I have used that one. I know which tactic you are talking about. I have used it.

A bard cannot persuade while in combat. If it was cabal skills that helped juggernaut to win. That isn't the same as beating someone without those skills

Since when can bards not persuade while in combat? I remember several times that I persuaded members of an opposing group to attack each other instead of me while fighting. I can't recall if I was getting hit at the time or not though.

Bards can easily run toe to toe with any class out there in 1v1, Salak and myself used to go out and actively pk people in 1v1 situations all the time with our bards. The only time I remember either of us having any problems in pk was when it would end up being 1v9, which no one really has a chance of surviving.

If you died to a NPC as a bard, you've obvioiusly not practiced any of your skills or do you know the class well, unless of course it was something like the mithril dragon. I can't recall dieing to NPCs while leveling at all, I'm almost certain all my deaths came from pk or NPCs like the mithril dragon.

If anything bards need some more hp for pk, the hard hitting spells like harm or magma spray just eat gm bards up, even with heavy resists. Other then that they are fine.

Try your experiment again with a pet taking the hits and see if you can persuade from the 2nd row. Your test didn't prove anything one way or the other.

You cannot persuade while in combat with another NPC.
In combat means when you're attacking them with a weapon (or with your dirty, semen-covered hands.)

However, you can persuade if you are not attacking someone else and your group is being attacked.

So, you cannot persuade while taking hits, but you can while giving them.

Make sense?

Both of you are right, it just depends on how you define IN combat.

So, the whole thing balances on your particular definition of 'In Combat'. Be in a group in a position where you are not attacking anyone and they are not attacking you and you can use your special skills to your group's advantage.

Sorry, Achernar, but you've got it mixed up.

You -cannot- persuade while GIVING hits,
but you -can-persuade while TAKING hits.

Archernar said that you can persuade if you are in the back row without a crossbow or some other weapon attacking. You cannot persuade while you are in combat for one reason or another.

[edit] In combat means you are physically attacking someone

Having never fully investigated persuade, I was trying to represent the difference of taking hits and being second row. In the second row without reach or range, you are not considered IN combat. This is why back row spellcasters can rest, sleep, walk away, and a variety of other things including not being affected by the combat pulse.
