Should people get the option to make General Discussion vanish if they want to skip the flames?

I think what you fail to realize is that GD offers a lot more than the potential flame. Why give up on a whole forum to avoid maybe a handful of threads you frown upon?

The idea isn't really worth being considered.

Well, as long as there aren't rules that will stop the flaming, and there is no option to ignore certain posters, I felt that the easier thing for a web admin to do was to implement a group of people who wouldn't like to see general discussion anyway.

We hide it from guests as it is our filthy lil corner, but then again, I'd prefer to be a guest in the forums. Actually if taking away the fact that they can't post, they are more privileged.

I am willing to sacrifice.

If you're willing to make the sacrifice, go away.

Oh, I'm sorry. I obviously wasn't making myself clear.

Please leave.

I just took the decision to ignore you completely.

Much like the decision the entire mud made about you when you created Frolith and Delaer, eh?

Sorry, but people are right that there's no real distinction between making General Discussion not appear for you, and you not clicking it. The second is also much easier to code.

Your suggested speech code is far, far too broad. Making violations out of:

* Insultingly refer to other characters, players, [immortals], or groups of people.

* clear and masked language and/or links to websites containing such language or images which: Are a mildly inappropriate reference to human anatomy or bodily functions.

is just not going to happen, nor should it. If you really disagree with that, avoiding GD honestly does sound like the best course.

I don't understand the purpose of this suggestion. If you don't wish to veiw a forum, don't go into it. What kind of need is there for coding that solution?
