Barbarian should have trip. Read the help file... it's a common fighter skill! Shaman should get a traveling spell. Be it rift or teleport. (Or just make a new spell called spirit shift that pretty much works like teleport, though, with spiritual protection to briefly keep you safe if you land in a bad spot.. long enough to say OH Sh@%!!! and quaff? lol)

Trip is more of a finesse like ability, and as you can guess barbarians are anything but finesse.

You could also make an argument for Warlocks to have a transportation ability but it isn't necessary for either of the classes. Transport abilities should be rare and the classes that have them now are good enough.

[Skills help] trip

Syntax: trip <victim>

Trip is a common skill used by melee fighters to knock an opponent off his
feet. Generally opponents must be facing each other directly to use trip, but
a ranged weapon can also be used to initiate it. Many factors determine the
success or failure of a trip but size and dexterity play important roles.
You cannot trip a person who is flying.

Doesn't say much about finesse to me.

I agree, an argument could certainly be made for Warlock and any other caster class that doesn't have a transportation spell. They should all have some form, even if it only allows them to go from portal stone to portal stone. Why should they be rare, because they are a convenience to the player?

Because. Valuable spells/skills being limited to a certain number encourages roleplay and prevents overpowering. Why would a barbarian ever trip when they have bash.

Yeah, seriously, bash is 10000x better than trip anyway. Trip is like an apology skill to the classes that aren't strong enough to get bash.

I often wish that more transportation spells were available on other classes, but I have to agree with smurf that it would be OPed

Disclaimer: I don't necessarily know what I'm talking about.

I would argue that barbarians need trip in order to be more viable in the second row. Specifically, MR barbarians need it. Barbarians are like swashbucklers in that their abilities are extremely focused on being in the front row, and by not being in the front row they are denied the use of the majority of their utility in a group. However, an MR barbarian in the front row is denied the use of defensive buffs, and the healing from his resistance is lowered every time he uses it. With sanctuary, armor, and a sword and shield, my hellion could probably tank better than an MR barbarian. Giving barbarians trip would allow an MR barbarian to put his abilities to better use in the only place he can survive in a fight: second row.

P.S. swashbucklers should seriously get the whip skill.

No problemo. Now if you could just return the courtesy we'd be set.

No, barbarians do not need trip - especially since they have the option of magic immunity via MR trains. Last thing SK needs is a magic immune, massive damage dealing melee class that stands in the second rank with the ability to knock people prone.

If you want to play a melee class with trip - create a mercenary.
