Might be like charm person? If you cast charm person and they save against it, you get no message. *shrugs* |

It isn't happening with just energy drain, I've seen it with various spells. You cast the spell and receive no message to let you know if it actually did anything. |

The NPC saved against it. Energy drain has always been all or nothing. You just got nothing. |
