(This is all taken from an experience in Taslamar, although I expect it is duplicated across all kingdoms)

So, it's nice that now if you get stuck in jail for 30 days or some other ridiculous amount of time that you can't just get someone else to get imprisoned and kill you, therefore freeing you, but with this "bug fix" there's a bit of a glaring issue present.

You can't break out of jail.

At least, not without wimpying out while someone shoots you with a ranged weapon.

A Dark Cell
You are in a cold, dark cell deep within the bowels of Exile Gaol. The
floor is strewn with mouldering straw, gently rotting and doubtless home
to rats and other vermin. The air is thick and damp, the rock walls
glistening with moisture. The low reek of confinement, of over-flowing
slop buckets, unwashed bodies and self-pitying despair hangs in the
close atmosphere like a malevolent miasma. A thick iron door is set into
one of the walls, beyond which can be heard the low murmur and scuffle
of the rest of the dungeon.
Obvious exits: n(closed)
There is a fresh loaf of pumpernickel bread here, tempting you.
( 5) A leather waterskin lies here.

A large heavily barred and locked jail door is here.
The door is open.
You see The Dungeon of Exile.
Jailbreakers are nearby north from here.
A hook-nosed male human is not too far off north from here.

Better stand up first.

That isn't possible while you are shackled to the wall.

Now, I'm sure that making people unable to fight in prison in order to get out via death was an important change, but this could use some attention also. As you can see from the multiple foot steps, the jail cell cannot be entered, and the prisoners cannot leave the cell by themselves.

That is all.

You know I had better things to be doing than dealing with you breaking out of jail. So ha!

And I nearly died to you breaking out of jail so ha!

Oh wait, I suppose in all fairness we should let you leave if they can break you out.

Jail is a cruel place.

You know, you could have the key be a twice used object. Once to open the door, once to unshackle the person. Then there'd be a hilarious rp about who gets to be broken out. Of course, I'd absolutely hate this if I was one that got left behind. With some people literally shedding tears and coming to the forum to QQ because someone let X out and not them.

:P

Glad to see my simple solution thrown in though.

Perhaps there is a lesson to learned from this experience:

Supposedly 'simple' fixes and 'minor' changes can have unintended and potentially game crippling side effects upon implementation.

Something to think about when QQ'ing.

only problem with twice used is

A. you have multiple allies in jail, only breaking one out at a time is not cool and unrealistic.

B. you have enemies you can go in after and kill while they are shackled to the wall, thus they are dead, and have to restart their sentance again later.
