Allow polymorph to carry over through logging out? Then it's not such a dumb feature, as age can be a strength or weakness, not just a weakness.

If this were a bug, I would consider a fix to be you'd polymorph in the relative age comparable to the race you are switching into? So a middle aged gnome would be a middle aged giant, and a young deep elf would be a young sprite. I think it is interesting there is an age check, so I wager the code is working as it was intended, just not perhaps optimally.

Perhaps this is more of an idea to improve something over a bug correction.

Pretty sure Ghent walked around polymorphed for ages after his usual race (gnome) would have been age-dead.

Nice for Ghent, but I saw when the original poster here had a character keel over for this reason.
Perhaps lucky for him that I was about to immediately put his character back together again.

Also worth noting is that I've seen sorcs polymorph into things like cats, without age deathing. I don't know what a cat's veneable age is, however.

When you polymorph into a non playable race, you may get some interesting abilities, but you keep your races stats, so I would imagine age would stay the same(i.e. you could be a 275 year old cat, if you were an elf).

This is crap and you know it. It should be recognized as a bug. Polymorph is a Magical skill that transforms your body to resemble another race. That's why you get bash as a giant, because you are that huge that you do can bash with your body. If you are an adolescent gnome (120 yo) you should polymorph into an adolescent human, and not like an age-dead human. Not to mention that, theoritically, a sorceror would be able to polymorph into a creature at whatever age of that creature he wills to be.

Want another neat bug? Polymorph into any of the elementals (Air elemental, fire etc) you gain all their natural resistances, but you still get hungry..the catch is, elementals can't ingest water or food so you can't eat. (And yes, at GM polymorphing into a fire elemental does give you a lot of the resistances that a warlock's GM fire elemental has. It's awesome.)

Except you can't wear armor so your saves and magical protection suck bigtime.
