[Songs help] songs of sleep

Syntax: sing '<sleep lyric>'

The melody of sleep is an almost irresistable lullaby that causes extreme
drowsiness to everyone in the room except for the bard's party. Symptoms
of drowsiness include reduced chance to hit and dodge, a reduced rate of
multiple attack routines
and a larger chance to miscast spells. If used
while dancing, the drowsiness effects are doubled and if the listener is
not fighting, they will find it difficult to avoid helpless slumber.

Songs of sleep is no longer granting a speed debuff.

If this change to songs of sleep is a feature, I guess it should be part of the announcement regarding the recent code update.

No changes have been intentionally made to songs of sleep since the prior announced code update. I don't think anything happened there either, but I'd have to go back and check.

In 2012 there was this change:

Quote:
- Song of sleep affects everyone unless dancing
- Song of sleep has progressive penalty to speed
- Song of sleep has progressive penalty to accuracy
- Song of sleep no longer penalizes casting
- Song of sleep only knocks out when dancing

The penalty to speed builds over more rounds. It's not like it was in ages past where you start singing and everyone who gets drowsy drops to 1 attack per round. Is this what you are referring to?

Given that the update says that it no longer penalizes casting, the help file really is likely to be out of date, but pertaining to the casting instead of the attack slowdown.

Songs of sleep while dancing or not isn't reducing enemy melee attacks like it used to about a month or so ago. I tested the progressive aspect of it and after 15 rounds there was no change in the number of enemy attacks. I wasn't sure if this was a bug.

Songs of sleep has worked fine for me, just do not expect it to work on everything.
Some creatures are simply immune, often ones you would not expect.

Really, if you do not see the 'drowsy' reaction on the very first song line, you already know your out of luck, and its time to change it up.
If you are with a large party however, this may not always be easy to spot.

the first creature I had literally put to sleep before the fighting even began and the other tests were against Minotaur

I just did another test today.

You sing: With a shimmer and a shiver,
You continue to dance.
A sewer rat goes to sleep.
A cave lurker goes to sleep.

[HP:100%] [ME: 92%] [PE: 99%] (aggressive)
> kill lurk
You claw at a cave lurker's chest, causing a deep gash.
Overall, a cave lurker has some small wounds and bruises.

A cave lurker misses you.

It continued to get full attack routines every round. Last month this type of creature would have had its attacks reduced to 1.5 per round.

Is it possible your charisma determines how much your songs penalize them?
