 Post subject: The Rules for Area Guide Creation

This forum is for player-authored guides to specific game areas. This forum will only permit fully-featured guides written in a way to inform new-players, not simply lists of cheat information.

Area guides posted here should follow the following general format:

  • Introduction
    • Area Name
    • Sextant Coordinates
    • Status Range
    • History - Commonly known information that could be determined from reading descriptions.
    • Map - An image is preferred, although it will initially need to be hosted off-site. Images may later be transferred to on-site hosting. It is suggested to use output from a mapper such as Zmud but may be something drawn manually.
  • Important NPCs
    • Equipment list (when fully kitted)
    • Shop inventory (also include what categories of items they will purchase)
    • Skills and stats available to be trained (do not list religion or faction abilities)
    • When listing items, it is acceptable to show what the identify spell would reveal for that item prior to it being modified by enchantment spells. Do not list lore.
    • If this NPC initiates a quest, you can list the quest name and what you need to do to get started. Do not give further details about the quest.
  • Walkthrough
    • Leveling Strategies - What types of characters profit most from this area?
    • Miscellaneous Info - May be unique based on type of content in area.

Each section should be contained within its own post. Authors can stub out posts to reserve room for future content, but guides will not be approved until the majority of the sections have adequate content. Authors are encourage to edit guides as time progresses to keep up with changes to the game.

Other players can make posts to comment on a guide, but those posts are also subject to moderation.

Any and all content may be removed by the staff at any time for any reason.

How are we to know what gear an NPC has when fully kitted? Is there a vanilla version of the MUD available to explore? I've been playing off and on since 2000 and still find gear that I didn't know about due to player possession.

Make a best effort to fill in the list. As long as you are not filling the inventory list with incorrect items, that is good enough to start. Other people can fill in the gaps by adding comments to the thread and you can edit the listing.
