Certain NPCs can only be found with voodoo though, and with a spirit doll, voodoo is still pretty sick. Gnome shaman with mana gear and a doll can do some hefty damage. But a human shaman vs magic resistant race and no doll or mana gear is going to suck.

Azoreth got double voodooed once. Dropped instantly. The log is findable out there somewhere.
I’d argue that if it’s done right, voodoo could be beastly. You just chose the wrong target and their reaction was perfect.
Don’t you drop auto summon while casting voodoo?
It wouldn’t be smart to voodoo if someone can summon you right after.

Don't think you drop summon, but you are open to gates. And based on the who list I figured we'd walk into an ambush if we had gated.

I find it hard to believe that that guy could be summond that easy if it wasn't dropped.
But who knows. Maybe you guys just got lucky.
Well done either way.

Being in the same city made the summon easier.

I forget that summon range has something to do with it.
Does that affect gates? Even if you’re open to them?

Yep

Feels to me like you could revamp voodoo to stop being the full-distance range nuke attempt that it is now (which is highly uninteractive) and just make it a skill that, with an effigy/doll, allows you to continually do damage to someone who is distant, without specifically inflicting them with instant, mana pool-based death.

Something like making it incredibly easy to debuff the player and also able to cast debuffs on them from afar or something for additional mana cost, and being able to damage them but also opening yourself up to retaliation by revealing your location, etc.

There just has to be something better than "I shot a huge wad of mana at you and all I got was this t-shirt"

Would be neat if voodoo was akin to holy word (since shamans are the non-priest healer class), with maledictions. Can be cast from range when holding a doll. Boom. Done.

No paralysis. Location reveal when cast from range.
