Ardith,

then the question becomes, is a giant merc with (pullin numbers off the top of my head forgive me if I'm wrong) 25 str and 19(?) cha getting 3 attacks per round getting more xp from an elf merc with 25cha and 20(?)str in the same situation? Does the dmg/round out weigh the charisma bonus? Because in my experience I'm leaning towards the bigger dmg/round.

Yes, the player's ability matters the most. If the player cannot exp, race and class are mostly unimportant. If the player can exp well, race and class are mostly unimportant.

CHA is a major factor in exping, but so is damage taken or mana drained. Elves and delves are highly susceptible to certain magic, so they take longer to recuperate if they take the damage (as a "for instance").

As I had never been a strong battler, I preferred the Griffarb or the gnome sorc for exp speed. Griffarb for ama to mas and gnome sorc for ini to cha. Charisma never entered my exp matrix.
