That's like saying an archer/biologist/martial arts expert from the 21st century can tell the difference between the killing power and range of various caliber weapons untrained. The era has nothing to do with it.

I have experienced nothing while RPing my warlock that indicates he should have any extensive knowledge of spears, or swords, or axes. I'm not saying he doesn't know what they are, but why one might choose a rapier over a saber or bastard over a broad, and exactly how long does a sword have to be before you should really consider using two-hands, these are the questions he hasn't a f- clue about.

Realism is a terrible standard. Look at playability. Would the game be more playable and fun with this information accessible? Yes. It would allow for more informed and less arbitrary tactics. It would free up RP time for things more exciting and dynamic than "tell Baldric Dear sir, what type of weapon dost this decorated bow be, and shall it grant four strikes per barrage?" There is no bad side effect except perhaps revealing the staggering percentage of undesirable items in the game.

Ugh. It's like, in order to create the illusion of deep waters in a pond, we've sunk to the level of making them murky instead because the only guy who can dredge the thing has no intention, time, or interest in doing so. You can pretend you do not know it if it is not available, but the opposite option does not exist. Arguing that your playstyle should be forced on others is the kind of solipsism that makes the community feel like a usenet group.

If the player base has been creating a resource to provide this information since the game opened, it stands to reason the game could probably benefit from dispensing the information itself in an environment where it could be controlled, trusted, and less likely to lead players to encounter shameful and rule-breaking accounts of the game.

Viltrax could have a field day administrating an official shattered kingdoms wiki. I don't see why it hasn't been made for regular players yet.

Because it's been said before, God's like to find information on the web that is being shared, then change it in game. If it wasn't for asking questions, I wouldn't get to know anyone in this game. I wouldn't care to.

Not for me.

I haven't forced anything, or argued that anything should be forced. I found a game with features that I like, that I enjoy playing. I support and protect those features, and try to be at least as helpful to other players as the veteran community has been to me. I don't like the argument that 'If you don't like it, play something else' but if one of the core concepts of the game (which in this case is information control) is something that makes the game unplayable to you, then maybe it isn't the game for you.

At current I am facing the same dilemma as Evena with armor. I am having to hoard money in order to start comparing armors, because I am still in my school leathers at apprentice level. I do have a gripe that you should be able to 'Compare' Items that are being sold without buying them, as you would have the option of seeing the item before purchase. Even being able to ask the merchant "Tell me about <item>" would be of great help. I still do not thing you should be able to find all the features of an item listed online, anywhere, and I hope it stays that way.

There is no reason the subtype of a weapon should not be revealed in the list command.

There is no reason the subtypes of weapons should not be described in the help command.

Why?

Because the help files already list subtypes. Specialize list already lists subtypes. Identify already lists subtypes. The only reason the help files should not include help <subtype> with a brief description of the advantage of that subtype over other alternatives is because the weapon system is completely arbitrary and lacks true systematic mechanics because it was developed through a very silly process that will never be rectified any time soon because people tried hard even though it is very silly as a whole. The only reason list doesn't include subtype for weapons is probably because Dulrik hasn't gotten around to it yet and the list command is already pretty cluttered and he assumes, reasonably, that builders would have short descriptions that get the job done.

If that cripples your RP, go get Algorab to give you a bridge and get over it.

It wouldn't cripple my RP, I just wouldn't like it. You take this way too personally. Identify listing subtype only assists my argument that casters should need some outside assistance to fully understand the capabilities of a weapon as they are using a supernatural ability to gain that information.

Edit- Wait a minute, do melee types have a way to gain information on items they are trained in at all? Compare does provide much useful information.

And what you say about the system being silly may very well be true, as a new player I wouldn't know. If I enjoy the system how it is, why would I jump to the conclusion that the system is broken. In fact why would I not defend that system as superior to systems that I do not enjoy as much. Hmm... oh wait.

Mundufisen... walk away from the pipe man... just walk away.

Geez guys, no need for the venom with the newbie. He's just articulating why he happens to like the system the way it is.

I mean, he does happen to be wrong, but no need to crucify him over it! :D

Fine. You don't want it in the help files? Put it in the training areas.
