Yeah. Leveling through spam dirt;backstab/circle stab is straight up ridiculous, as is leveling through spam C major for bards, compared to a purely physical approach.

I read Ardith's post completely the first time, and he's wrong. Even as paladins and hellions, you're better off casting damage spells in between rounds and sleeping in between every two and three NPCs as opposed to utilizing physical damage and only using your mana to hold spells.

Thanks for confirming the theory. Anyway, if you're going to go that route, the only time it is useful to sleep is just before a tick. That might be the best approach for getting xp fastest, but there is a strong argument for an alternative which trades a little bit of speed for a little bit of convenience and tolerance as far as timing is concerned.

The build of the hellion largely influences which approaches become more attractive than others. The important thing to walk away with is that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and that you can expect certain ways to be better at producing certain results. Newbies reading the thread would benefit most from trying out a little bit of everything suggested and only keep doing what seems to enjoyable work for them.

Take a close look at the files, Edoras, and re-read Ardith's post. Casting damage spells on things that don't get damaged won't give you damage xp. You only get cast xp, and only combat-spell xp if there's any to be had for that.

Casting a spell on a monster, or I dare say performing a damage skill, would grant the xp for succeeding in addition to damage as the help files are construed. In that sense, something like circle stab or backstab would be one of the best level-up things to spam.

Really though, you pay heavily for spell damage and experience with mana downtime. As a hellion, you could be built to do endless melee damage at lower levels. That seems better than sleeping for five minutes and spamming casts for 50 seconds afterwards.

I maxed out my character's charisma and spammed spells. I only ever slept long enough for my pulse to slow down, which gives decent enough xps. This does ignore how I leveled at high levels but it would have been inefficient to level the same way I did while solo. I'm not even going to get into that.
